Itching bumps on skin are not the only symptoms of eczema. Because there are so many types of eczema with variations when it comes to triggering factors and causes, it also follows that eczema has symptoms other than itching skin bumps.

The symptoms of eczema can be classified into four groups. Some types of eczema have characteristically dry rash. Other types have symptoms that can be generally classified as itching bumps on skin. There are also kinds of eczema that cause red itchy blisters or wheals. And then there are types of eczema which cause the skin to thicken or thin.

Types Of Eczema With Dry Rash Symptoms

  1. Xerotic Eczema or the “Winter Itch” – You can easily tell just by its name that this particular type of eczema is caused by the cold, winter season. People with xerotic eczema usually develop a dry rash at the beginning or peak of winter season. Elderly people or older adults may develop red itching bumps on skin as an additional symptom.
  2. Sebaceous Dermatitis or Seborrheic Eczema – This eczema type is also known to cause a dry rash. It distinctly causes patching or flaking skin on certain areas of the body like the scalp, the face, behind the ears, and the torso. The flaking skin can be likened to dandruff. In general, any sort of stress encountered by the body triggers this condition. Such stress may include psychological distress, lack of sleep, malnutrition, poor health, and the like.

Types Of Eczema With Itching Bumps On Skin

  1. Contact Dermatitis – Contact dermatitis is the second most common type of eczema that affects mankind. It is triggered by an allergy or exposure to any form of skin irritant. Right after being exposed to these triggering factors, itching bumps on skin will immediately appear although some irritants will cause blistering.
  2. Nummular Eczema or Discoid Eczema – Not much is known about nummular eczema other than it is aggravated by dry skin, winter season (like xerotic eczema), stress, caffeine, and other beverages and situations that lead to dehydration. Whenever triggered, nummular eczema causes a unique brand of itching skin bumps that are large and round or oval in shape.

Types Of Eczema That Alter Skin Thickness

  1. Stasis Dermatitis or Varicose Veins – Capillaries are the thinnest blood vessels and with continues pressure put on them, fluids and cells going through them will eventually leak out and ultimately result in the thinning of the skin. With stasis dermatitis, the skin initially looks thin and may develop a few non itching skin bumps before it leads to sores and skin ulcerations.
  2. Neurodermatitis – Neurodermatitis is an abnormal skin condition in which constant friction or scratching causes the skin to thicken. It is characterized by leathery brown skin which thickens with continuous friction or scratching.

Types Of Eczema With Blisters And Wheals

  1. Dyshidrosis – Dyshidrosis is very easy to tell with the presence of small blisters on the hands or the feet – a far cry from itching bumps on skin. Itchy or painful, it is believed to be caused by allergies, exposure to skin irritants, and fungal infection.
  2. Dermatitis Herpetiformis – Dermatitis Herpetiformis is not caused by the herpes virus as you might think given its name. The blisters that it causes, however, are very similar to that of herpes. The blisters with this form of eczema are very itchy. Prior to the appearance of these blisters, complaints of an itchy, burning sensation on the skin are usually common.

Types Of Eczema With Dry Rash OR Itching Bumps On Skin

  1. Dermatitis Atopica or Atopic Eczema – Known to be the most rampant kind of eczema affecting people of all ages (including infants), dermatitis atopica is a type of eczema that’s acquired genetically. Symptoms may either be red itching skin bumps or a dry rash that oozes or flakes.
  2. Autoeczematization – Autoeczematization can be any type of eczema with manifestations such as itching bumps on skin or skin dry patches. It is characterized by the widespread presence of these rashes or the obvious spread of the rashes from a single focal point.
